Business cases

Contiga Tinglev A/S (Denmark)

Contiga Tinglev A/S is one of the leading precast manufacturers in Denmark. With a keen focus on innovation and the willingness to push the limits when it comes to production technologies, it came natural to Contiga Tinglev to try out Maturix as an addition to their current production routines.

By being able to indicate the precise demolding times for selected elements, Contiga Tinglev was able to increase their production capacity by more than 15% without risking to damage their elements. In addition, all waste related to the lack of strength development or early demolding was removed, causing a reduction in waste of 35%.

The daily operation in the facility runs seamless across all production zones. A number of elements are selected for monitoring from the production plan, which is accessible for all relevant staff members on their computer or phone and on a dashboard in the precast factory. Production teams can now easily install transmitters and start production monitoring from within the production. Displays mounted in the production zones allow employees to see the status of any monitoring and plan their activities to match the curing of the concrete. This ensures that elements are only deemed finished, once they have reached the required maturity for the product type.

The implementation time across all eight production zones was less than 3 months, and the daily monitoring volume is around 20 elements. Maturix helps control production on a daily basis – but also provides statistical analysis for production planning and product development allowing Contiga Tinglev to optimize their compounds or energy usage on a day-to-day basis while receiving the results of their optimizations immediately.

Problem

Precast element manufacturers are not sure when they demold their concrete elements or release the tension of the steel wires. This results in either too much waiting time due to large buffer times or potential damages and security issues from removing the elements too early.

Solution

By using Maturix™, they are able to use real-time data for decision making. The Maturix system estimates the concrete strength based on laboratory data on each unique concrete mix, giving the manufacturer complete insight in the curing proces and when target strength has been reached. Dashboards in the production shows the status and documentation is automatically generated once the report is finished.

With Maturix™, Contiga Tinglev A/S has minimized its waste due to slippage with more than 90%. The solution is today implemented in all their prestressed hollow-core lanes.
